Troma Celebrates 50 Years With The Toxic Avenger 4K Box Set, Theatrical Screenings, Toxic Crusaders Video Game and More
Troma Entertainment, the beloved independent film distributor and production house, is excited to celebrate 50 years of independent cinema this year.

Troma Entertainment, Inc. is the longest-running independent movie studio in North America. In addition to commercial success, Troma enjoys a wealth of critical appreciation, exemplified by Troma retrospectives sponsored by the American Cinematheque, Cinemathèque Français, the British Film Institute, the American Film Institute and many others. After creating a new kind of sexy comedy in the 70’s and putting a new face on the superhuman hero in the 80’s with The Toxic Avenger, Troma continued to break new ground in the 90’s and 2000’s with quality, entertaining films. In recent years, Troma has emerged with such theatrical successes as Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1, #ShakespearesShitstorm, and Eating Miss Campbell.

The Tox Box is a brand new 4K restoration of the entire Toxic Avenger series, housed in an 8 disc box set with hours of extras, special features, and commentary tracks, and includes a limited edition postcard. It will be available on August 29th, and is currently up for pre-order on Amazon.

Retroware Games is developing a retro beat-em-up video game based on the cult classic Toxic Crusaders series. It is set to release in 2024, and a demo is currently playable on Steam.

Troma has partnered with Alamo Drafthouse to present the new 4K transfer of The Toxic Avenger in theaters around the United States. Select screenings will be accompanied by appearances by Lloyd Kaufman as well as Toxic Avenger cosplayers, tromettes, and a raft of merchandise giveaways and contests.

Throughout its 50 year history, Troma has pushed the boundaries of independent cinema, inspiring countless filmmakers, and kickstarting the careers of bold new voices like James Gunn, Trey Parker, and Eli Roth. Troma’s massive film catalogue can be streamed on its very own subscription-based service, Troma Now. Many titles are also available on Peacock, Amazon Prime, Freevee, Tubi, Shudder, and more. The company is currently developing a FAST streaming channel, which will feature a stream of hundreds of Troma classics.
