The Blackburn College Department of Music and Theatre will present our opening show of the fall 2018 semester, with a Festival of Six 10-Minute Plays, produced by the Blackburn College Studio Project. Performances are Friday, Sept. 14th and Saturday, Sept. 15th at 7:30pm on the Bothwell Stage. Come support the work of returning student actors, directors, and designers, and welcome new, incoming actors to our stage! Admission is Pay-What-You-Can. Plays contain adult language, content, and situations. Not suitable for young audiences. FALL PLAY AUDITIONS! Please join us the SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH, at 6:30 on the Bothwell Stage for our fall play auditions. Our fall production will be the contemporary drama, Speaking in Tongues, by Andrew Bovell. This play features roles for 5 men and 4 women. No preparation or experience necessary! Email Professor Conover with questions. Make S'More Friends, Yo! Come on out to the fire pit behind Jewell, by the tennis courts for some free S'mores this upcoming Monday, September 17th at 7pm! Bring a friend and have fun! Learn How to Reduce Your Energy Consumption STUDENTS! You will have your own place someday and will be paying for your own utilities. Learn what you should ask before buying/renting and you can do to reduce your electric consumption. Marisa Joyce from Elevate Energy will be available in the dorm parlors on Tuesday, Sept. 18 and Thursday, Sept. 20 to provide this information. SEE SCHEDULE BELOW Community Challenge is Ending! The Community Challenge is coming to a close (ends October 31st). This may be the last chance for Blackburn’s Sustainability Committee to earn points for the Carlinville Schools and a chance to earn a grant. Any club, professor-class, or individual can schedule Marisa Joyce from Elevate Energy (a non-profit organization) to speak with your group. She teaches people how to save money on their electricity bills, make their homes more comfortable, and collectively reduce energy use by taking advantage of the benefits of the smart grid (including real time pricing programs-Ameren) and increasing their home or apartment’s energy efficiency. Homeowners – schedule a home demonstration, invite your friends and family, and receive a FREE Nest thermostat – a $200 value! With students, she stresses that they will soon be paying for their own utility bills, so it’s important to know this information. She also teaches them a little about what to ask their landlord (i.e. for information on the unit’s past electricity bills). Dance Club Meeting Dance club meet on Wednesdays from 7 pm-9 pm and Thursdays from 5 pm-7 pm in Dawes. If you love dancing, having fun or making new friends then come join us. Everyone is welcome! Crewhead Job Description and Qualifications: Crewheads are responsible for working with the crew, giving proper guidance, training and direction to assure that the work is being completed to the proper standards. Specific duties include checking inventory in the supply closets and making sure they are clean and in working order. Removing and replacing trash bags, sani bags, toilet paper, paper towels and soap. Other duties may be assigned by an assistant, the manager or supervisors. You must currently work in Campus Services to apply for Crewhead. Must be dependable and in possession of good interpersonal, communication, time management, organizational and problem solving skills. Applications are due Wednesday, September 19th by 5pm.
