Psychological horror sensation Expecting is now available to stream for free on Tubi, bringing this dream-weaving tale of pregnancy, family and mental terror to genre audiences all over the world. The film is also available to stream for free on Fawesome and BloodStream TV.
Expecting follows the strange and unnerving journey of pregnant writer Maria (Alex Jade) who ventures to the country with her Husband/Manager John (James van Langenberg) in order to finish her new book while he unpacks the old house her long-lost uncle Christian (Kase McClean) left her before his untimely and unexplained death.
As the week grinds on and the baby takes it’s psychical and psychological toll on Maria’s mind and body, she begins suffering from strange and surreal dreams that begin to entangle with the pressures of her current reality, which include a pair of violent rednecks, a seductive blonde, a mysterious caretaker, a local celebrity real estate agent and his daffy wife.
Erasing the lines between dream and reality, the film shows a woman in the midst of a mental descent that grows increasingly stranger and stranger right up until the heart pounding conclusion.
The film was Produced, Written and Directed by independent Canadian filmmaker Michael Lippert (View From the Edge; #ShakespearesShitStorm) and Case McClean, who’s classical horror influences range from the paternal dread of Rosemary’s Baby to the reality-melding allure of Twin Peaks and the Twilight Zone.
Rounding out the cast is a hilarious career-best performance from Troma Entertainment President and Toxic AvengerCreator Lloyd Kaufman as Floyd Dinkenheiser, a local real estate mogul who wants nothing more to take Uncle Christian’s house, and maybe more than that, off the struggling couple’s hands.
When speaking of Kaufman’s involvement, Lippert says “Once the story was in place, we knew that the role of Floyd was juicy enough to attract a real icon of the independent horror scene. But when trying to decide who would be bold and brave enough to travel all the way to butt-f**k nowhere Ontario, Canada to star in the first film from a couple of bumbling nobodies, we knew no one would fit the bill better than Lloyd, even going so far as threatening to kidnap him if he refused to take the role. Thankfully he agreed without going that far and gave the film a legendary infamousness that only a true legend like Lloyd can provide.”
