Following a successful August 13th live premiere, Jason Rising is taking the internet by storm.
On Friday the 13th of August, on the heels of a buzzing red carpet event,
the long-awaited and highly-anticipated Jason Rising fan-film hit the silver screen at Portland’s historic
Hollywood Theatre to a sold-out auditorium of the horror franchise’s most devoted fans.
“It was a dream come true!” according to Executive Producer and Cinematographer Karl Whinnery. “It
was incredible to watch the movie play out with the crowd enjoying every second. Having [original starring
actress] Adrienne King kick off the movie?” swooned Whinnery, “If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re in for a
treat.”
The independent filmmaking team, which included dozens of Oregonian actors and film professionals,
battled a once-a-century ice storm, state-wide wildfires, and a global pandemic to bring their version of
Jason Vorhees to a starved Friday the 13th audience. “Seeing three years of hard work finally come to life
on the big screen, with an overwhelming positive response from the fans, has been more than I could
have imagined for Jason Rising”, said Director James Sweet.
Just as the first washes of blood flooded the Portland big screen, thousands of Friday the 13th fans from
around the world flooded to YouTube to watch the online premiere. In the week since the live premiere,
the film has amassed more than 100,000 views on the platform, reflecting an overwhelmingly positive
reception from the ravenous horror community. “The response from the fans has been incredible. We took
some big swings in this movie and the feedback has been – everyone wants ‘MORE’!” said Whinnery.
