Weird Pretty Pictures Announces World Premiere of Distort 2: The Dead Among The Trees at the Unnamed Footage Festival

Weird Pretty Pictures are thrilled to announce the world premiere of Irish horror sequel, Distort 2: The Dead Among The Trees, at the 9th installment of the Unnamed Footage Festival.

Distort 2: The Dead Among The Trees follows on from 2025’s Distort, which centered on a musician recording an album in the woods who discovers mysterious cassette tapes left for him. The recordings reveal the harrowing account of a woman researching an urban legend whilst being terrorized by a sinister man as well as his vicious dog. Before long, these sinister occurrences begin to happen to him as well… The previous film concluded with the shocking revelation that although she went missing 30 years prior, the woman was directly communicating with the musician in the present through her recordings.

In the sequel, director Richard Waters reprises his role as the musician, determined to help the woman escape her supernatural entrapment, this time documented by a film crew set out to reveal just how much of the previous film was real or in his mind. He is joined by his concerned partner Ciara, played by Ciara Baily (star of Waters’ previous film Bring Out The Fear), Ygraine Hackett-Cantabrana as the documentary director, mirroring her real-world career as a journalist known for her work with leading horror outlets, and Mark Schrier (The Rainmaker, Taryn Barker: Demon Hunter) as her cameraman. Rounding out the cast is David Layde (Sex Education) in the role of urban legend expert Professor O’Gorman, and Charlotte Hall and Joe McCarthy reprising their roles from the original film.

Blending psychological horror with the raw immediacy of found footage storytelling, Distort 2: The Dead Among The Trees promises to deepen the mythology introduced in its predecessor while delivering an intense, immersive experience.

“People’s reactions to the end of the first Distort film were really something, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. I don’t know if anyone is ready for just how far these tapes and unexplainable shapes in the forest go. I’m excited to share this next experience in the Distort world, and to premiere at UFF, a festival I hold in very high esteem with a crowd I can’t wait to share this with, is perfect.”
— Richard Waters, Director

The Unnamed Footage Festival has built a reputation as the premier destination for boundary-pushing found footage cinema. It runs March 24–29 in San Francisco, promising an electrifying showcase of some of the most cutting-edge films in the genre.

Further details on screening times and ticketing can be found via the festival’s official channels.
