Wild Eye Releasing Acquires Hi-8 for Worldwide Release

New York, NY – Wild Eye Releasing, a growing leader in independent horror home entertainment, is proud to announce the acquisition of Nightfall Pictures’ Hi-8 (Horror Independent 8), an eight-part anthology that brings together some of the most recognizable names in home video horror of the past 30 years, capturing the creative essence of the golden era of low budget, SOV horror filmmaking.

Called “The Expendables of shot on video horror” by Horror Hound Magazine, the directors for Hi-8 are Tim Ritter (Killing Spree), Brad Sykes (Camp Blood), Marcus Koch (100 Tears), Ron Bonk (The Vicious Sweet), Donald Farmer (Demon Queen), Todd Sheets (Zombie Bloodbath), Chris Seaver (Mulva), and Tony Masiello (SOV: The True Independents), who have returned to their classic 80s and 90s style, gore-laced storytelling. All eight segments feature only practical effects and all directors were forbidden to use any post-Internet technology, including HD cameras, green screen, CGI or found footage.

Wild Eye CEO Rob Hauschild said: “With current high-profile anthology series like V/H/S and The ABCs of Death coming from larger studios, it is brilliant to see some of the pioneers of genre home video band together with camcorders in hand to show off the everlasting love, determination and creativity that’s found in truly independent horror filmmakers.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with Wild Eye Releasing.  Hi-8 is a unique, old school horror anthology that stands apart and I wanted a distribution partner who understood and appreciated that,” said Hi-8 Executive Producer Brad Sykes.  “We have been aware of Wild Eye releases for some time, and noticed that they release edgier indie horror films and give each film individual attention, unlike some distributors who treat movies like ‘product’.”

True to the spirit of the project, the first nationwide release of the festival favorite will be a limited edition VHS this October.  After Halloween, fans will be able to rent Hi-8 on VOD or purchase a special edition DVD filled with exclusive bonus features.
