Game Review – Killer Klowns from Outer Outer Space ★★★☆

By all accounts, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is exactly what it sets out to be—an unapologetic, candy-coated love letter to fans of the cult 1988 film. And in that regard, it’s an absolute blast. The asymmetrical multiplayer format—pitting human survivors against elaborately grotesque alien Klowns—feels like a perfect extension of the film’s chaotic energy. From the colorful weapons to the garishly designed environments (including a lovingly recreated big top spaceship), the game oozes character and charm.

Where Killer Klowns really shines is in its fun factor and replayability. Matches are short and frantic, with a wide variety of unlockable abilities and Klown classes keeping things fresh across repeated sessions. Whether you’re wrapping humans in cotton candy cocoons or dodging death in a run-down amusement park, the game delivers consistent, ridiculous fun that rewards teamwork and experimentation.

However, its greatest strength is also its biggest liability. The game is deeply committed to the source material—to a fault. While longtime fans of the film will revel in the absurd references, B-movie aesthetics, and tongue-in-cheek humor, newcomers may be left scratching their heads. There’s little hand-holding here for those unfamiliar with the Klownz lore, and without that nostalgic connection, the game’s over-the-top weirdness might feel more alienating than entertaining.

Still, for those in on the joke—or willing to embrace its warped universe—Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is an eccentric, endlessly replayable good time. It’s not for everyone, but it’s certainly not trying to be. And in this case, that might be the point.
