Set during Argentina’s military dictatorship and against the backdrop of the 1978 FIFA World Cup Final, 1978 follows a group of government torturers who kidnap the wrong victims. What begins as another brutal interrogation quickly descends into unimaginable terror as the captors discover they have entered the domain of a supernatural cult. Combining political horror with occult nightmares, the film delivers a relentless and unforgettable descent into madness.

The film quickly became one of the biggest genre discoveries of the year. Following its World Premiere at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, 1978 celebrated its North American Premiere at Screamfest Los Angeles, one of the world’s most prestigious horror festivals, before embarking on an exceptional international festival tour that included more than 40 major genre festivals worldwide.

Throughout its festival journey, 1978 collected numerous awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Special Effects, Best Actor, and many more, establishing it as one of the most decorated independent horror films of the year.

The momentum continued after its festival run. The film became the second most successful independent horror film on HBO Latin America, introducing the Onetti Brothers unique blend of historical terror and supernatural horror to an even wider audience.

Featuring an outstanding Argentine cast led by Mario Alarcón (The Secret in Their Eyes), Carlos Portaluppi (Argentina, 1985), Agustín Pardella (Society of the Snow), Jorge Lorenzo, Gustavo Bonfigli (Wild Tales), and Paula Silva (Virus:32), the film delivers powerful performances that elevate its brutal and atmospheric story. The cast is featured in the official press dossier.

Critics around the world have praised 1978 for its
