Review: Together (2025) ★★★☆

Together, the 2025 horror-thriller starring real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco, is a twisted, claustrophobic tale that explores the dark underbelly of romantic entanglement—and does so with both style and squirm-inducing substance. Though not without its flaws, the film is a grisly gem that thrives on its leads’ electric chemistry and some seriously grotesque set pieces.

Brie and Franco are the film’s undeniable heartbeat. Their on-screen connection feels lived-in and raw, which makes the unraveling of their characters’ relationship all the more compelling. They masterfully toggle between tenderness, mistrust, and psychological warfare, giving the film an emotional authenticity that anchors even its wildest moments. The tension between them is thick enough to cut with a knife, and it’s in these emotionally charged exchanges where Together truly sings.

Director [Director’s Name] cultivates a palpable sense of unease from the start, with unnerving camera work and a crawling pace that builds dread without dragging. Horror fans, in particular, will find much to admire in the film’s commitment to its visual brutality—oozing wounds, body horror, and disturbing practical effects abound, and they’re not just for shock value. The grotesque imagery mirrors the emotional rot at the center of the couple’s toxic dynamic, making the horror feel earned rather than ornamental.

However, Together does occasionally trip over its own ambition. The tone—while generally effective—sometimes veers into the unintentionally absurd, with certain scenes feeling over-the-top in ways that undercut the film’s psychological weight. When the film tries too hard to escalate, it risks slipping into camp without meaning to. And while the mystery behind the story’s central horror is intriguing, its ultimate explanation feels a little too thin, especially given how much emotional groundwork had been laid.

Still, Together lands more punches than it misses, and its portrayal of toxic codependency is both fearless and resonant. It’s not just a horror story—it’s a cautionary tale about losing yourself in another person, taken to gory, terrifying extremes. Messy, intense, and often disturbing, Together is a beautifully grotesque portrait of love turned lethal.
