At 11 minutes and change horror short Heartless is one of the most consistently engaging short horror films we’ve seen. Just like their feature counterparts, horror shorts have a tendency to build up a single scare, exchanging narrative for a single thrill and largely, in the short form, it really works. Kevin Sluder’s Heartless succeeds by driving (what could very well have been a full length film) full speed forward where every second is just an extension of its relentless pacing in gore -soaked merriment. An exercise in the heartless world of high pressure corporate business, the short encapsulates the stereotypes most of us face everyday in the real world and gives them a fantastic horror movie sendup resulting in an utterly satisfying example of wish fulfillment. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Heartless is still screening at festivals everywhere and can be seen June 4th at Screenland Armour in Kansas City, MO.
