“Just because your ex has returned from the dead as a zombie, that doesn’t mean you can’t invite him in for tea.”

Being the brainchild of renowned Austrian horror writer Michael Haberfelner, who also shared production duties with his director Eddie Bammeke and leading lady Luana Ribeira, the movie was filmed by an all-British crew and mostly Brit-cast in Yorkshire, Essex, and London, over the course of two years, which also produced the multiple award winning proof-of-concept standalone short Talk of the Dead.

There’s No Such Thing as Zombies revolves around a love triangle between a woman (Luana Ribeira), her husband (Rudy Barrow), and her ex (Rami Hilmi) – only one of them is a zombie. It’s a bit as if George A. Romero directed “Casablanca of the Living Dead” – in colour.

Besides the three mentioned above, the film also stars US-horror legends Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, Shivers) and Debra Lamb (Beverly Hills Vamp, Wild at Heart), as well as British up-and-comers Scott Hillier, Rachel Brownstein, Alexander Fernando, Paul Sutton, and Martina McClements, with popular trance vocalist Marcella Woods turning in a rare appearance.

Originally a work-for-hire that almost didn’t get made when the original producer, leading lady, and director quit the project, There’s No Such Thing as Zombies soon became a passion project for writer Michael Haberfelner.

“With its unique mix of situational comedy and social commentary, I just knew we had something special on our hands,” says Haberfelner, “and look how well it works in the context of the pandemic we’ve just lived through, even though the film was already in the can before the word ‘Covid’ was coined even.”

So Haberfelner assumed the role of lead producer and hired Luana Ribeira not only as his leading lady but also as producer alongside him, and she in turn brought director Eddie Bammeke into the mix. A partnership made in heaven? Suffice to say, Haberfelner, Ribeira, and Bammeke are currently working on the variety TV show It’s Luana.

“It’s fun satire, yet get ready for the effect of a living-dead version of Withnail and I.“ – Film Threat

“… a hilariously witty, bitey romp through one of the world’s goriest love triangles.“PopHorror.com
