Official trailer and poster released for Sami Pöyry’s psychedelic arthouse thriller Red Static!
The gritty and psychedelic film addresses mental health problems and alienation from society, issues that have drastically become more apparent during the pandemic and countless lockdowns.
The film directed and written by Pöyry tells the story of Timo, a lonely man living on a secluded farm, who invites his childhood friends for a visit. He has a plan that will change their lives forever.
Red Static has been a long-time dream project for Pöyry:
”The film is very topical but not an analysis of the current situation. I wanted to make a film that dives in the middle of the hard questions and takes the audience to a wild ride that hasn’t been experienced before. “
Red Static, filmed in the Finnish countryside under the sunlight of summer nights, stars the established faces of Finnish independent and genre cinema Jari Manninen (Bunny the Killer Thing), Roope Olenius (Bunny the Killer Thing) , Veera W. Vilo (Tuftland), Jere Saarela ja Saara Elina (Tuftland). The film is a co-production between Monadi-Filmi and Bright Fame Pictures.
Olenius and Vilo, also producers of the film, are a couple behind the award-winning hillbilly horror Tuftland (2017) and upcoming figure-skating thriller Free Skate (TBA).
Sami Pöyry has directed award-winning short films, music videos and an experimental feature film Zomba di Mare (2014). He also has another film, a romantic drama called Moments, in post-production.
Red Static is set to release theatrically in Finland once the theatres open.
