LUCIFERNUM — A CinemaScala Picture, a 76-minute independent Belgian gothic film set inside the eighteenth-century Lucifernum in Bruges.
Doctor Retsin lives among paintings, poems and memories, surrounded by figures including the Count, the Butler and the Black Madonna. As reality, memory and apparition begin to merge, the house itself gradually becomes a character.
Vampirism runs through the film as a metaphor for beauty, memory, life force and the desire for immortality.
LUCIFERNUM was written and directed by Rubèn Cottenjé de Dauphin and produced by Latin-Flanders in collaboration with DevaFilm.be, with a total production budget of just €666.
